A Downtown Guide to Memorial Day Weekend

Category: Boulder Blog

Post Date: Tuesday, May 25, 2021Hello Downtown Readers,

Memorial Day weekend is one of the best times to get together with family and friends to enjoy beautiful weather and eat delicious food. I am excited to experience my first Memorial Day in Boulder because of the fantastic weather, scenery and food options that contribute to making downtown Boulder the perfect place to spend a long weekend!

My favorite part of the holiday weekend is eating tasty burgers, hot dogs, ribs and other BBQ classics that leave me stuffed every year. Suppose you are not up to the challenge of barbecuing yourself. In that case, many local restaurants provide take-out options that are sure to satisfy everyone at your Memorial Day get-together.

West End Tavern features a Memorial Day special so you can pick up all of your BBQ needs to go. Feast on freshly smoked burnt Ends, brisket, pulled pork, pulled chicken and St Louis-style ribs by the pound. In addition, West End Tavern has a variety of side dishes and canned drinks so it’s truly a one stop shop for the perfect BBQ.

Suppose you are looking for something other than the traditional BBQ food. In that case, Centro Mexican Kitchen offers three different family-style taco kits that are all equally delicious! I personally would go with the chicken Asado but there is also the carnitas al pastor, or crispy cauliflower packages with a range of tasty toppings and tortillas. This package is available to order online and will make for an appetizing and effortless Memorial Day Weekend get together.

If you are looking to spend some time outside surrounded by your favorite downtown shops, restaurants and artists, then head down to the Civic Area Park at the Bandshell this Sunday for Boulder Creek Fest’s Summer Sundays. Attendees will enjoy a vast collection of food from healthy options, food trucks, international options, American-style food and desserts. If that were not enough, Summer Sundays features live music and handmade artwork created by hometown artists. Since Summer Sundays happen right next to Boulder Creek - with a picturesque view of the flatirons in the background, attending this event is an excellent opportunity for people to enjoy all the beauty that downtown Boulder offers. Insider tip, every Saturday and Sunday year round, City of Boulder Parking Garages are FREE! The city also offers free parking throughout the district on Memorial Day (look for the Green P).

Take advantage of this Memorial Day Weekend by getting outside and indulging in the variety of mouthwatering food options and a ton of fun activities that downtown Boulder has to offer. Hope to see you here!

Always a pleasure,

Jacob
