Best of Boulder 2020 Recap

Category: Boulder Blog

Post Date: Tuesday, June 23, 2020

Boulder Weekly has rounded up the best Boulder cuisine for 2020 and the results are hard to argue with! Ranking everything from best veggie burger to the best fine dining, the list has both classic spots that you’re sure to recognize and some new contenders that’ll help you expand your foodie experience. Many of the winners are our very own downtown Boulder restaurants - keep reading to find out how all your favorite downtown dining performed in this competition.

Taking home three awards, Leaf Vegetarian Restaurant was one of the many East End restaurants that was recognized by Boulder Weekly. Leaf won silver for best vegetarian friendly, silver for a great gluten-free menu, and bronze for best organic restaurant. Leaf has a wonderful outdoor patio which I love to dine at, and is currently serving its award-winning vegetarian cuisine for takeout or dine-in with limited seating available. In addition to Leaf, Mountain Sun Pub & Brewery also represented the East End and was recognized over five times. They took home the gold award for most kid-friendly, best burger, best American restaurant, best veggie burger and best restaurant service. If that doesn’t convince you to check it out I’m not sure what will!

If you really like sushi, all three of the award winners are downtown Boulder businesses! Sushi Zanmai, Hapa Sushi Grill & Sake Bar and Japango swept all the other competition away for best sushi, with Sushi Zanmai in particular being recognized for its chefs’ outstanding hospitality. If pizza is more your thing, readers voted Pizzeria Locale (another East End gem) as the best pizza place. Known for its Neapolitan style pizza, Pizzeria Locale is the perfect spot for a first-date or catching up with friends due to its “elegant yet casual” ambience. The Tune Up at Full Cycle took home Best Sports Bar - make sure to check them out for an after ride drink on their newly expanded patio.

No list would be complete without indulging readers’ sweet tooths. Downtown Boulder is home to many ice cream shops, candy shops and chocolatiers and it’s no surprise that many of them scooped up some awards. Piece, Love & Chocolate and Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory were awarded gold and silver for best chocolatier, respectively. Gelato Boy was also recognized as having some of the best ice cream (or in this case, gelato) and the beauty of this shop is that there’s two locations- one on the West End and another in the center of Pearl Street Mall. If you’re ever craving something sweet while strolling downtown, know that you’ll be in good hands with these award-winning stores.

Boulder Weekly’s Best of Boulder 2020 has definitely given me a lot of great downtown dining options that I can’t wait to try. I hope you all are as excited as I am to visit (or revisit) these precious places and help support their business!

Until next time,

Intern Sierra
