My Affair with Self Care

Bliss store front

It’s midterm season for this Buff and saying I’m stressed is would be the understatement of the year. But don’t worry, I take self care seriously. This week, I want to share how I go about taking care of myself.

I make sure that I take at least one day out of the week where I don’t do any work. Sometimes not doing work is more stressful than doing it because there is so much to do. This means that I have to keep myself busy enough to not think about the textbooks on my bedroom floor. The first thing I need to do is declutter my life and my thoughts a little bit. This process starts by cleaning out my closet and heading to Crossroads Trading to exchange my unused clothes for some spending money for the day. I then like to re-clutter my life by doing some shopping. There is something about cute trinkets and accessories that spark a lot of joy in me, so I like to stop in at Bliss and see what I can find. As I make my way up Pearl Street, I stop in various stores that I think are fun like Rocket Fizz, Art Mart Gifts, Lush, Earthbound, Into the Wind and Farfel’s Farm among many others. It’s also fun to stop in at Savannah Bee along the way for honey samples and mead tastings. Eventually my sweet tooth starts calling to me and I know I need to stop in at Le Pops for an ice pop that will knock my socks off, check out the mint chocolate pop–it’s one of my favorites!

After a day of running around Pearl Street (I usually walk the length of downtown two or three times on a self care day like this; I gotta get in my steps!), I am starving. I like to hit up Oskar Blues for a good beer (G’Knight imperial red is one of my favs), some food (think pub food like wings) and live music. If I’m not exhausted after that and it’s a Friday or Saturday, I like to head to Tahona for the DJ dance night to end my night.

The next morning I am feeling recharged, fresh and ready to get some work done! I wake up, send it to Laughing Goat, order a latte and get back on the grind. School and work are important, but they are not my entire life. I’m gonna go enjoy my day off!

Best
