Join us for the opening reception for Homelands Reconnection, an Annual Exhibition Honoring Those Whose Land We Stand On: The Ute, Cheyenne & Arapaho. Be the first to experience the art and meet the artists. This opening is free and open to the public, refreshments will be available for purchase.
The “Homelands” art show is a profound tribute to the Arapaho, Cheyenne, and Ute tribes, honoring their connection to their ancestral lands that now make up Boulder, Colorado. Launched in 2021 at the Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art, the show brings a long-overdue recognition and celebration of the Indigenous peoples whose presence shaped this region long before its current identity.
In 2022, the show found a new home at the Sacred Space Gallery, housed within the Dairy Arts Center. The opening was met with a warm reception and overwhelming community support, a testament to the powerful connection between land, art, and identity. The event serves as a meaningful way to acknowledge history, foster reconciliation, and rebuild bonds with the original stewards of the land.
This annual exhibition at the Sacred Space Gallery, welcomes back the tribes, offering them a space to express their stories, struggles, and aspirations through the medium of art. It represents an ongoing commitment to ensure that their histories are honored, and their voices continue to resonate within the land that once was theirs.
