“Movement, to be experienced, has to be “found” in the body, not put on like a dress or a coat. There is that in us which has moved from the very beginning. It is that which can liberate us.” – Mary Whitehouse, Pioneer of Authentic Movement

Authentic Movement is a subtle yet powerful therapeutic practice that allows individuals to explore the relationship between the creative, psychological and sacred dimensions of their experience through bodily expression. Tap into the wisdom of your subconscious to help you grow and evolve, root and spread your wings, through movement and sounding. Developing kinesthetic awareness, interpersonal skills, empathy, and a sense of embodied presence are often natural outgrowths of the practice. The sensing world is awakened, perceptions clarified, and feelings affirmed – restoring a sense of authority to one’s own bodily-knowing.

Meeting in First United's labyrinth provides a uniquely sacred, inspiring space for this practice.

What others say:
"Authentic movement has been an empowering experience, where I get in touch with my inner voice. It has allowed me to connect in a deeper way with my body, leaving behind thoughts, limiting beliefs and expectations.

"Merlyn holds a safe space where you can flow and your body can express freely. Attuning yourself with the group energy is magical for a self and group healing. Each experience feels like peeling several layers of heaviness that I've been carrying around. After every session, I leave the room feeling lighter and re-energized." - Laura Casillas

"There is movement in the circle: loud; expressive; honest; desire - a want.
And... in this moment, a part of me shies - fear in my belly.
Something calls me, not sure I am hearing it, how it calls, what it calls, how to hear....?
It is palpable. It holds a truth. Can I reach....?

And... in this moment, I feel, even though it is hard for me to open and participate in the circle of movement, I also feel, simultaneously there is an opening up in the energy space for me to enter, and I am able to feel welcomed into the dynamic, a new part of myself blossoming......

I can explore this feeling: internal & connected (to the movers/others) vs. internal & hiding - a powerful analogy for my life. -- Loretta Luchau
