Lines explores resilience and joy as forms of resistance amid occupation and displacement. Drawing parallels between Irish and Lebanese histories and traditions, the piece weaves together music, video, dance, and the poetry of Khalil Gibran. Lines reflects how cultural traditions evolve through hardship and change by embracing an adaptive and emergent process that blends electronic arts with the folk arts of Sean-Nós and Dabke, reflexively acknowledging the importance of adaptation to our ancestors’ survival and perseverance. Lines invites audiences to consider how we might further adapt by coming together as a global community to ensure freedom and safety beyond imposed borders.
