Share your story and engage in community conversation about our past, present, and future.
In recognition of the 250th anniversary of the United States and 150 years of Colorado, Motus Theater invites you to an interactive Playback Theater performance exploring how our family stories are in conversation with the history of our country and state, as well as of our democracy.
Audience members are invited to share short stories or reflections, stories of family, migration, love, land, loss, resilience, and belonging. These stories are then improvised live on stage by Motus Playback actors through movement, music, and spoken word, transforming individual experiences into a collective moment of recognition and connection.
Each performance becomes a living conversation, where many paths, perspectives, and histories meet. Stories may be joyful or difficult, recent or long-held, deeply personal or broadly shared. Together, audience and performers co-create a one-of-a-kind theater experience rooted in listening, imagination, and civic connection.
There is no pressure to speak. Whether you choose to share or simply witness, your presence matters. By gathering, listening, and reflecting together about our past and present, we’ll imagine the future we can still build, together.
This performance is part of Motus Playback performances honoring CO 150th anniversary; this initiative is funded in part by the National Endowment for the Arts, Denver Arts & Venues, the America 250-Colorado 150 Community Grant, and Rose Community Foundation’s Immigrant Ecosystem Support Grant.
