Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art (BMoCA) partners with the Downtown Boulder Foundation to extend Our Wishes | Nuestros Deseos to Pearl Street Mall
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
[Boulder, CO. February 15, 2021] - The Our Wishes | Nuestros Deseos installation is extending from One Boulder Plaza onto the Pearl Street Mall in Downtown Boulder. Additional flags will adorn the downtown area, spreading messages of hope and sharing wishes from members of our community this spring. Art has the ability to empower people and create conversations, especially during the pandemic and current demands for social justice. BMoCA is proud to announce Our Wishes | Nuestros Deseos, the Spring 2021 Art @ One Boulder Plaza installation, by artists Alejandra Abad & Román Anaya (Abad◮Anaya).
Abad◮Anaya are creating a landscape that celebrates hope at One Boulder Plaza. Their art asks: What is your message of hope? ¿Cuál es tu mensaje de esperanza?
Our Wishes | Nuestros Deseos is an open collaboration between the artists and the public. The artists collect wishes from the public and then transcribe those wishes into art in the form of fabric banners.
This temporary public art exhibition on the Pearl Street Mall is made possible through a partnership between BMoCA and the Downtown Boulder Foundation, whose mission is to engage visitors and locals alike through arts, culture, innovation and inclusive, community-driven experiences in downtown Boulder. The flags for this installation were created by Abad◮Anaya with community input and community art making sessions in early 2021.
“The installation was developed as a way to both engage with local community members and to help activate the downtown area during the COVID-19 pandemic by sharing beautiful messages of hope through public art, ”said David Dadone, Executive Director + Chief Curator of BMoCA. “BMoCA is thrilled to partner with Downtown Boulder Foundation to extend Our Wishes | Nuestros Deseos to reach additional members of our community.”
"We are honored to support this great project focusing on engaging the community around ideas of hope and optimism. It is very powerful to see values expressed by community members translated into these stunning visual representations,” said Chip, Downtown Boulder’s CEO.
Presented in partnership with:
Museo de las Americas, Lighthouse Writers Workshop, Art District on Santa Fe, RedLine, Downtown Boulder Foundation, City of Boulder, Boulder Arts Commission, One Boulder Plaza Management, W.W. Reynolds and University of Colorado Boulder Office for Outreach and Engagement.
