Celebrate CU Boulder's Family Weekend Downtown!

Category: Boulder Blog

Hey, downtown! Hope everyone is having a great start to the gorgeous fall season.

It is a very exciting weekend for CU Boulder and downtown….CU Boulder’s Family Weekend!!

Once a year, families and alumni join CU students for a weekend full of football and family fun! To celebrate, we have compiled a list of all the awesome happenings downtown this weekend!

To kick off the football festivities, the Pearl Street Stampede is happening tonight, October 12 at 7 p.m. The Pearl Street Stampedes have been a downtown tradition for over a decade. Before each home game, hundreds of Buffs line the Pearl Street Mall to watch the “Golden Buffalo” Marching Band and cheer on CU athletic teams. Led by Stephen Tebo’s vintage 1948 fire truck, members of the Golden Buffalo Marching Band start performing at 7 p.m. on the 1300 block of Pearl Street (in front of the County Courthouse). The Stampede moves west and stops on each block of the Pearl Street Mall to perform. I don’t know about you, but this is my parent’s favorite part about family weekend, so be sure to head downtown and join in on the fun!

Looking for some new CU attire for your family? Deck yourself out in black, gold and silver this weekend to show your support! Check out Jackalope & Co. International, BoCo Life, Savvy on Pearl, Charlie’s T-Shirts and Where the Buffalo Roam for all your Buff merch needs!

Now, let’s talk food and drinks! The Prime effect is real and many of our downtown restaurants have released some awesome specials for the CU football season.

Not going to the game? No problem. Avanti Boulder will be hosting a watch party on the fourth floor on Friday night to cheer on the Buffs! They will be offering $4 Avery Stampede Cans and $5 Pink Whitney Shots! Every night before a home game, enjoy a live, rooftop performance from the Golden Buffalo Marching Band at sunset!

Jax Fish House will be open early at 1 p.m. for every CU Home Game. Head in for a full raw bar and delicious happy hour food and drink specials, crafted specifically for game day. Be sure to join in on football celebrations by making a reservation

Check out West End Tavern’s game day specials! To celebrate the Buffs, West End will have specials such as the Badass Buff Burger with smoked beef brisket, free beer with all barbeque boards and so much more.

One of our latest editions to the downtown district, The Sophomore, has released a new happy hour menu with delicious food and drink specials. Enjoy the game and other sporting events on eight TVs both on the patio and indoors.

The St Julien Hotel & Spa will be hosting a watch party on Friday, October 13th at 8 pm in the lobby!

The festivities don’t stop there. Take your family on a journey throughout the district and show off your local favorites on the East End, West End and wander Off the Bricks. The district’s collection of unique shops reflects downtown’s charming aura.

Join us in welcoming the shop, Pendleton, this Friday, October 13th at their grand opening. Then make sure to stop by Bliss for their spooky sale event! Enjoy 20% off the entire store, live viny DJs, live painting by local artist Andrew Barker, Colorado Fairy Hair, jewelry pop-up artist Leela Inspired, and light refreshments.

I hope everyone has an incredible weekend while spending time with their loved ones! Sko Buffs!

More to come,

Rebecca!
