Hello there, downtown Boulder!

My name is Iris Serrano, and I am the Marketing and Communications Intern for summer 2026. I’m excited to get started and learn more about downtown Boulder. I am a recent graduate of CU Boulder, with majors in journalism and strategic communication with an emphasis in advertising and a minor in political science.

You might be wondering, what are you doing here as an intern if you just graduated? Well, this internship credit is the last one I need to officially complete my journalism degree. It’s the perfect opportunity to gain hands-on experience, develop new skills, and learn from the team here at the Downtown Boulder Partnership.

I was born and raised 45 minutes away (with no traffic) in Aurora, Colorado. I first visited the CU Boulder campus in middle school because I was a part of a pre-collegiate development program that supports first-generation students exploring post-secondary education opportunities. Although I always said I would never go to CU, lo and behold, it was the best decision I could’ve made!

It was in high school that I discovered my love for storytelling and media after joining the yearbook and newspaper courses offered. So, naturally, I chose the majors that combined those two passions. During the school year, I also work as a student writer for CU’s College of Communication, Media, Design and Information, where I write feature stories, event recaps, and help out with social media projects. I also write newsletters and editorial content for Bucketlist Community News.

Outside of work and school, I love spending my free time hanging out with my family, taking long night walks, and playing video games. I’ve recently become a big movie watcher, so I have more things to log on my Letterboxd. I’m also starting to get back into reading books that aren’t required for classes or school, but simply for enjoyment!

Although I’ve spent many years hanging out in Boulder, I’m still discovering new coffee shops, events, and hidden gems downtown. There’s always something new around the corner, and I’m excited to spend the summer exploring the district and sharing my favorite finds along the way!

Thanks for taking the time to learn a little bit about me. Stay tuned for more great downtown Boulder content.

See you soon,

Iris
