How to Do St. Patty's Day... Downtown Boulder Style

Hey Downtown Boulder Readers!

It is mid-March which means one of my favorite holidays is right around the corner… St. Patrick’s Day! I always love seeing people and towns turn green, with smiles on their faces. To me, St. Patrick's Day always marks the start of Spring, whether it be 10 degrees and snowing or 50 degrees and sunny. In this blog, I will give you ideas of ways to celebrate in either circumstance!

Whether your Irish heritage is genuine or honorary, it is always fun to celebrate. But, just like everything else this year, St. Patty’s Day celebrations will probably be a little different than in the past. I usually spend St. Patrick’s Day restaurant hopping with my friends, however, that won’t be the case this year. When I was trying to brainstorm what to do instead, my first thought was to get a picnic from Cured and spend the day outside at a park with my roommates (in green attire, of course). If the weather is warm enough this year, you can pick up food from a downtown Boulder restaurant and head to Chautauqua or another park of your choosing. Enjoy the beautiful Boulder scenery with delicious food, and maybe you’ll be lucky enough to see a leprechaun roaming around ;).

If it ends up being a bit too chilly for an outdoor picnic, you can always stay inside, order takeout, and have an indoor picnic! As a kid, my favorite St. Patrick’s Day movie was Disney’s Luck of the Irish. Check out West End Tavern for food and drink specials available for pre-order and pick-up, then take it home and watch your favorite St. Patrick’s Day movie while enjoying Irish food! If you can’t decide what to get for take-out, think about what your favorite green food is and order that! Mine would probably be avocado rolls (because I am vegetarian), from either Hapa Sushi or Blofish. I also am a huge connoisseur of roasted brussels sprouts, and I hear The Corner Bar has amazing crispy ones with a chile-soy glaze!

Whether you are dedicating March 17th to celebrating or not, you might as well wear green just for the fun of it (also to avoid being pinched)! If you don’t have any green pieces in your wardrobe, check out Savvy on Pearl or Elison Rd. for adorable and fashionable ideas. Charlie’s T-Shirts also has green apparel with prints related to Colorado! A double-whammy, dressing accordingly for St. Patrick’s day while also repping the most beautiful state.

I hope you all enjoy this holiday as much as me, and I hope you can use some of these ideas to help you make St. Patrick’s Day 2021 just as fun as it always is!

Talk Soon,

Ally
