New Semester, New Intern, Same Good Chaos

Category: Boulder Blog

Good Day Downtown Boulder!

My name is Fatima Bugaighis and I am the new Marketing and Communications Intern for Downtown Boulder this fall!  I am a current senior studying strategic communications with a minor in business. I’m wrapping up my last year by doing what I do best, telling stories and hyping up the community I’ve grown to love.

I was born and raised in Denver. Often when people hear “Colorado Native,” assumptions that I grew up with skis strapped to my feet and granola in my veins are made. These assumptions couldn't be further from the truth.  I actually grew up in Park Hill where my dad ran his pizza shop and where I attended East High School (Go Angels!).

My childhood was more Colfax concrete jungles than meadows of wildflowers. My version of the great outdoors was the occasional sunrise at Red Rocks. So while yes, I am from Colorado, Boulder was still a bit of a culture shock for me (in all the good ways).

I’ll admit it, I chose to attend the University of Colorado for the in-state tuition (practical queen), but Boulder snuck up on me with its charm. Sure, maybe some people here eat grains and baked sweet potatoes for breakfast, lunch, and dinner but there is undeniably amazing food, unique local businesses and a downtown scene that makes you love Boulder no matter the season.

Growing up with a Peruvian and Libyan background, I have a serious passion for cooking and trying new foods. Typically you'll find me exploring new ingredients, recipes and restaurants. Hiking is definitely a developing passion. I dabble… but only if my friends are nearby and will carry my water bottle up. That being said, I was recently gifted a pair of Chacos for my birthday and that was not on my 2025 bingo card. Next thing you know, I’ll have the typical sticker-riddled Nalgene and eat grains and sweet potatoes for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

This fall, I am so excited to explore Downtown Boulder and spotlight all the gems the district has to offer. Downtown Boulder is such a buzzing place with so many new things always going on. From the seasonal foods, events, and kid friendly activities to celebrating the amazing community, Downtown Boulder is where it’s at. I am basically living and breathing proof that you don't have to be a mountain climbing fanatic to jump into this city (but owning a pair of Chacos couldn't hurt you).  I look forward to taking you on all my adventures around the district.

Until next time,

Fatima
