Hey, downtown!
My summer is coming to an end, and so is my time as the marketing and communications intern with the Downtown Boulder Partnership. I’ve had a blast working on this team and being able to explore everything that the downtown area has to offer.
Although I had spent many summers in Boulder, I never really ventured beyond the stores on the bricks. This internship gave me the opportunity to explore the east and west ends, discover local businesses, and attend community events. I truly got to know all the people who make downtown so special.
It’s hard to pick a favorite moment I had during the internship, but I think my top two were volunteering at the Pearl Street Arts Fest and assisting with a photoshoot for the summer season. At the arts fest, I was able to help support the event while also gathering content of all the booths throughout the day. It was nice to see the community come together and experience just how much work goes into creating a vibrant event. The summer photoshoot was another highlight because it gave me a behind-the-scenes look at the creative process behind downtown Boulder marketing campaigns. I met business owners, employees from downtown businesses, and community members who just made the day so much better. Now, when I take a look at the website and its photos, I remember how much fun I had and I appreciate the work that goes into bringing downtown Boulder’s story to life every year.
I’m bummed that I won’t be able to work right on the beautiful Pearl Street Mall anymore, but I won’t be moving away from Boulder just yet! I’m starting a master’s program in higher education at CU Boulder. It’ll be interesting to take classes outside of the communications and journalism field, so I’m excited to see what’s waiting for me in the fall semester! Needless to say, now I know the best places to go if I ever need to get away from campus to study.
I want to take some time to thank everyone on the Downtown Boulder Partnership team. I felt so welcomed and supported right when I started the job, and I’m so grateful for all the guidance I received. I’m excited to take what I learned at this internship to my next workplace.
Thanks for a wonderful summer, downtown Boulder!
I’ll see you around,
Iris
