Hello Downtown Readers,

Father’s Day is here and it is time to celebrate the dependable and loving dads in our lives. It is a time reserved for spending time with close family and appreciating everything that dads do for us. On Father’s Day my family and I always get outside to enjoy the sunshine whether it is playing catch with my dad and brothers, going golfing or having a family barbecue. Luckily,  downtown Boulder is the ideal place to celebrate Father’s Day by taking advantage of perfect weather, a variety of summertime activities and tasty food all across downtown Boulder.

No Father’s Day celebration would be complete without a family barbecue. Some of my favorite Father’s Day memories are the entire family sitting outside eating delicious burgers, hot dogs, ribs and more while laughing and reminiscing about some of my family’s favorite memories of my dad. Father’s Day is the perfect time to get dad new grill accessories. If you are still having trouble looking for a gift for dad, check out our Father’s Day gift guide here, which features plenty of terrific gift ideas from stores across downtown.  However, suppose your family is not up to the challenge of barbecuing yourself, many downtown Boulder restaurants have you covered with take-out options that are sure to satisfy the entire family this Father’s Day.

West End Tavern is featuring a special three-course meal so you can pick up all your BBQ needs this Father’s Day. The first course is mouthwatering pork belly burnt ends that are coated in West End Tavern’s savory peach BBQ sauce. Next is a smoked dino beef rib topped with bourbon BBQ sauce and served with bacon brussel sprouts and twice baked potatoes. Lastly, if you are somehow still hungry, this package includes a s’mores brownie sundae for dessert. In addition, West End Tavern is offering canned drinks to go, making West End Tavern the one stop shop for a great Father’s Day BBQ. You can place your order online here.

If you are looking for something different than a typical barbecue then the Jax Fish House and Oyster Bar Father’s Day Grill kit has you covered. You get to choose one of the shrimp skewers, filets, salmon or tuna steaks as your protein option and a choice between a sharable wedge, house or sides of delicious grilled veggies. Personally, I would go with the tuna steaks and side of vegetables, but any combination will certainly be tasty. If all that is not enough, Jax is including a pint of ice cream and a six-pack of beer that will give your family everything they need for the perfect Father’s Day Feast. This package is available to order online here.

Summertime in Boulder is a special time of year with days filled with sunshine and great weather making it the ideal time to get outside. There are plenty of fun activities to do with your dad this Father’s day. Boulder Creek Fest’s Summer Sundays at Civic Area Park at the Bandshell, is a terrific opportunity to enjoy everything that downtown Boulder has to offer. Summer Sundays will feature a variety of food from downtown Boulder healthy options, food trucks, international options, American-style food and desserts. Additionally, Summer Sundays feature art and live music performances from Boulder’s very best artists such as beautiful paintings from Jen G studios, handmade jewelry from Lucky Old Sun and comfy outerwear from Lazy Llama. If all this were not enough, Summer Sundays are located right next to Boulder Creek which is a gorgeous area right on the water with a picturesque view of the Flatirons in the background. As a result, this event is a perfect opportunity to enjoy all of the beauty downtown Boulder has to offer.

If you want to be active this Father’s Day head to Boulder Creek to take part in a range of really fun outdoor activities. As someone who learned to fly fish with their dad, Father’s Day is a great time to get out on the water and try to catch some of the beautiful fish the creek has to offer. Boulder Creek is catch and release, but is still a perfect place to get outside and spend quality time with dad. If you are new to fly fishing stop by Front Range Anglers and Rocky Mountain Anglers for free introductory courses. Front Range Anglers is offering a Fly Fishing 101 class every Saturday from 10-11:30AM located at the shop. Don’t worry if fishing is not your thing because there are still plenty of enjoyable activities on the Creek. If you are feeling bold go tubing down the fast-flowing Boulder Creek. This is a relaxing, yet adventurous activity that the entire family can enjoy. For something more mellow, simply head to the Civic Area Park to take a soothing walk alongside the creek and revel in the beautiful sights and sounds of downtown Boulder!

Make sure to celebrate this Father’s Day by getting outside to take in downtown Boulder and treating your dad to the many tasty food options downtown Boulder has to offer. Hope you have a great Father’s Day!

Talk to you soon,

Jacob S.
