Each year, the City of Boulder Parks & Recreation department provides free tulip bulbs to the community. This year, the City has teamed up with twelve downtown Boulder member businesses to hand out the free bags of bulbs.
Interested residents may visit any one of the participating locations beginning on Wednesday, August 21st when they open to pick-up ONE free bag of bulbs. Please note that the bags are expected to be distributed relatively quickly. A donation to the PLAY Boulder Foundation is strongly encouraged at the pick-up location or online here! Tulip bulbs will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis and limited to one bag per family.
The City's Parks and Recreation department has been hosting this free event for Boulder community members since 2006 with the goal of sustaining beautiful and unique tulip spring blooms along Pearl Street while providing an opportunity for interested gardeners to enhance their homes and public spaces through local resources. Parks and Recreation staff changes the variety and color of the tulips planted on the Pearl Street Mall every year to provide a unique and impressive display each spring. After the bloom, staff removes the bulbs to make way for summer plantings, storing them until the annual tulip bulb giveaway each August. Pearl Street Mall tulips are imported directly from Holland from a wholesale provider.
