Downtown Boulder Partnership’s Tulip Bulb Giveaway is August 24, 2022

City of Boulder’s Parks and Recreation department teams up with downtown businesses to distribute free tulip bulbs to the public

Boulder, CO [August 17, 2022] –  The annual Tulip Bulb Giveaway is back on Wednesday, August 24, 2022. Each year, the City of Boulder Parks & Recreation department (BPR) provides free tulip bulbs to the community. This year, the City has teamed up with eight downtown Boulder businesses to hand out the free bags of bulbs: Pedestrian Shops, Old Tibet, Savvy on Pearl, R Gallery + Wine Bar, Terracotta, Ramble on Pearl, Two Hands Paperie and Jones + CO

Interested residents may visit any one of the participating locations to pick-up a free bag of bulbs, which will be available on August 24 when each shop opens. A donation to the PLAY Boulder Foundation will be strongly encouraged at pick-up! Tulip bulbs will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis and limited to one bag per family.

BPR has been hosting this free event for Boulder community members since 2006 with the goal of sustaining beautiful and unique tulip spring blooms on the Pearl Street Mall while providing an opportunity for interested gardeners to enhance their homes and public spaces through local resources.

The history of tulips on the Pearl Street Mall is a rich one.The tradition started in the late 1970s, when Boulder’s then sister city, Meppel, Holland, would send 5,000 tulip bulbs annually to be planted along the Mall. Then the tulips were celebrated with an annual event called Boulder In Bloom. Now, that event has morphed into the beloved Tulip Fairy and Elf Festival. A form of this tradition continues to this day when every fall BPR plants 15,000 brand new tulip bulbs that are imported directly from Holland.

The Tulip Bulb Giveaway is made possible by BPR and organized by the Downtown Boulder Partnership.
