A Weekend Well Spent

Category: Boulder Blog

What’s up downtown Boulder!

This week, I’m focusing on the little things in life by finally trying places I’ve always been curious about but never quite made time for. This past weekend, I got the chance to check out two spots downtown that I’ve walked past countless times; places that have always caught my eye but somehow stayed on my “I’ll go eventually” list. If you’ve been feeling like life is too busy to try the things you’ve always wanted to, this is your sign to slow down and indulge in whatever’s been calling your name.

Whenever I’m in the middle of a super busy school and work week, I love finding a space that feels cozy and welcoming, somewhere that makes me feel at home while still keeping me productive and away from the distractions that come with actually being at home. Creature Comforts Cafe was exactly that. The atmosphere is bright and warm during the day, and they have a variety of seating options depending on your mood: comfy couches, tables, and counter seating, so there truly is a spot for everyone. And the atmosphere is only the beginning.

I had never eaten here before, and I was so pleasantly surprised by everything I tried. The Salted Honey Latte was easily one of the best coffee’s I’ve had in a while, the Smoked Turkey Cheddar Panini was filling and comforting, and the Banana Monkey Bread Pastry was the perfect way to finish off my meal and satisfy my sweet tooth. On top of that, everyone working there was incredibly kind and welcoming, always checking in and making sure I had everything I needed. It’s the kind of place that makes you want to stay a little longer than planned, which I absolutely did.

On Sunday, my friends and I headed over to Color Me Mine for one of the most wholesome activities you can do. Color Me Mine is great for all ages, and they offer options for date nights, and walk-ins, as well as parties and groups by appointment. As soon as we walked in, I immediately felt at ease. We spent a good amount of time at the beginning just walking around and looking at all the pottery pieces, and honestly, that alone was one of my favorite parts.

They have such a wide selection, from mugs and plates to kitchen items and cute decorative pieces, all ready to be made completely your own. Everything was so adorable that I genuinely wanted to paint everything in the studio. We definitely struggled to narrow it down, but once we picked our pieces, we sat down and got to work. The music was perfect for the space and instantly set the tone. There were multiple moments where we all started singing along, laughing, and just enjoying being present together. Painting felt surprisingly cathartic, and I loved that we all chose completely different pieces because every finished product was unique and felt like a beautiful reflection of the person who made it. Once we were done, we left our pieces to be fired in the kiln, in about a week, we’ll get to come back and pick them up. It honestly makes the experience even more special, having something to look forward to and a finished piece to take home and keep.

This weekend was such a reminder that you don’t need big plans to have a really great time. Sometimes it’s a cozy café, a creative afternoon, and good company that makes for the most meaningful moments, and this one was exactly that.

Until next week,

Ava
