Hey Downtown!
I have quickly realized how many unique places there are downtown to experience art and get in touch with your creative side. From galleries and museums to murals on streets and buildings, Boulder has an artistic experience for everyone. I’ve had the pleasure of visiting a few of these places this week, and I’d love to share what I’ve found!
I never knew just how many art galleries and museums are sprinkled throughout downtown. If you’re on the bricks, be sure to stop by the SmithKlein Gallery to admire their collection built upon over 30 years of art expertise, featuring local and international artists. Stepping into this gallery, you are instantly met with a peaceful environment to enjoy many different artists and styles. A block or two off the Pearl Street Mall, you’ll find Rembrandt Yard Art Gallery and Event Center and Ana’s Art Gallery. When not hosting events, Rembrandt Yard is an excellent place to enjoy art from various local artists. You won’t be disappointed by their beautiful space and incredible view of the Flatirons! On Spruce Street, Ana’s Art Gallery showcases the unique vision and voice of international artists. Ana’s gallery specializes in sculptures, carvings, masks and paintings from Africa, the Caribbean and beyond!
If you’re interested in more modern pieces, The Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art (BMoCa) will be the place to go! It has a community-oriented mission to bring creative experiences and the work of innovative artists to Boulder. Starting next week, the immersive work of artist Sophie Ramos as well as the exhibition ‘Grossly Affectionate’, which includes several artists in their experiments of challenging hybridity, will be on display. In addition to BMoCa, the 15th Street Gallery has various contemporary media from emerging artists all over the US. This gallery has a goal of showcasing never-seen-before pieces while offering guidance through intentionally-curated exhibits.
If you are looking for the perfect spot to explore with friends or experience your next date night, head on over to the R Gallery Art and Wine Bar to enjoy charcuterie boards, a glass of wine or their on-tap kombucha while you immerse yourself in fine, local art. While they are currently renovating part of the gallery and wine bar, you can still enjoy their ever changing exhibits made up of work from artists all over Colorado. Besides observing local art, the R Gallery has dance, music, poetry nights and more as well as opportunities to host your own event there. I loved going to visit the R Gallery and meeting the inviting staff. I cannot wait to go back soon and see their finished renovations, all while supporting local artists!
The opportunities to experience art don’t end with galleries and museums! Art Source International has a wide range of vintage maps, posters, photos and prints. Whether you are looking for rare maps or custom framing, this should be your first stop! Music lovers need to stop by PosterScene, a nationally leading space where thousands of vintage and modern concert posters as well as prints, articles, autographs and more can be found. Forms of art can be found just by walking around downtown, with murals and architecture of old and new buildings alike. Check out our walking mural tour here! Finally, try your own hand at creative expression by visiting Color Me Mine Boulder, Two Hands Paperie, or Lula Faye Fiber. These spots offer supplies and opportunities for any level of artist!
I am thrilled at the many places that I have found downtown where I can experience and be immersed in various forms of art! I had the most fun exploring all the galleries and incredible art locations around downtown this week and look forward to continuing to visit more art focused businesses such as Art and Soul Gallery or Dancing Grains Woodworks. I can’t wait for more downtown exploring and sharing what else I find!
See you around,
Alexandra
