Brunch is My Middle Name

The trend of “brunching” has been lively over the past few years. From t-shirts that say “Brunch Squad,” “Viva la Brunch” or ones that use the Mean Girls reference, “You Can’t Brunch With Us,” brunch seems to be everywhere. I happen to love brunch myself, and as an avid breakfast-food lover I have taken it upon myself to detail some of the best brunches in the downtown district!

This past weekend I went to brunch with my two friends Sally and Mia. You may recognize Sally - she was Downtown Boulder’s summer intern. We went to Foolish Craig’s and boy was I impressed! I had never been before but I highly enjoyed their Corned Beef Hash. The three of us split their Butter Rum Caramel Crêpe Cake, which was featured on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives. Foolish Craig’s also offers an array of eggs benedicts, crepes and omelets as well.

Another great stop for brunching downtown is right next door to Foolish Craig’s, at Snooze, an A.M. eatery. Snooze started in Denver in 2006 and has breakfast specials like no other. My personal favorite is their Cinnamon Roll pancake, but sometimes I will opt for their Pancake of the Day to taste other creative options they offer. Snooze also has a “light as a feather” menu for those seeking a lighter brunch. Their Ooo La La Frittata with house-made pistou and spiced pepitas is one of my favorites on this menu.

Jill’s Restuarant & Bistro at St Julien has a notable brunch scene because of their plentiful vegan, vegetarian and gluten free offerings. Every Sunday, Jill’s has a special Sunday Brunch menu from 10 am to 12:30 pm. This includes a buffet with a carving station, an omelette station, and bottomless mimosas. They also do Vegan Friday buffets with an ever-changing selection of vegan dishes made with the freshest ingredients.

If you’re looking for more unique picks, The Kitchen American Bistro is the place to dine. Their brunch menu includes Maple Old Fashioned Doughnuts, Mushroom Toast with braised kale and ricotta salata and Bourbon Pecan Sticky Buns. Their weekend brunch menu served from 10 am to 3 pm Saturdays and Sundays.

Lastly, Centro Mexican Kitchen has their own brunch galore. On Saturdays and Sundays they serve brunch dishes such as Tres Leches Toast, Pork Carnitas Benedict and Pozole Verde. You can not go wrong with their Mexican Coffee and House-made Horchata.

I hope my recommendations have inspired you to get your brunch on, and explore the scene on your own. The downtown district is FULL of amazing brunch options - many that I didn’t mention! You can find the list of weekend brunch options here. To keep up with all of the downtown food and drink specials subscribe to the Foodie Friday email. Best,

Intern Alicia
