Weather Change Means Closet Change

Hey Downtown,
As I was walking to the office this morning, I quickly realized I needed to turn around and grab another coat because all I had on was a light sweater. That was when it hit me: fall is officially here, and summer is behind us. How did that happen?! While I love wearing shorts and flip-flops year-round, Colorado weather doesn’t always allow for that, especially when you’re right next to the foothills. With that said, it might be time to head downtown and find a new coat, hat and gloves for the season. Whether you’re looking for something lighter for those 40-degree days or a puffy jacket for the sub-zero temperatures, there’s no shortage of options (spoken like a true Colorado native).
Downtown Boulder has plenty of places to keep you warm this winter! Shop retailers like HIMALI, Montbell and Helly Hansen for jackets and snow pants, Cotopaxi for great backpacks, and Hestra for gloves. Looking for more outdoor gear? After a season that didn’t bring nearly as much snow as in years past, I’m excited for a real fall and winter this time around. For a community that loves to ski and snowboard, having the right gear is essential for staying warm, comfortable and safe on the mountain.
During my time in Boulder, I’ve grown to love snowboarding. I first tried it in 2023 at Copper Mountain, where I fell more times than I could count! Thankfully, I’ve gotten much better since then. Backcountry has become one of my favorite downtown stops for getting ready for the season.
Whether you’re gearing up for your first day on the slopes or replacing some well-loved essentials, downtown has plenty to offer before the snow starts falling.
Of course, cold days also call for the kind of food and drinks that warm you up from the inside out. Mountain Sun Pub & Brewery is always one of the first places that comes to mind. A grilled cheese and tomato soup on a chilly afternoon? Sign me up. Or a toasted sandwich from Organic Sandwich Company, pair that with a cozy atmosphere and a good drink, and you have the perfect way to end a cold day downtown.
As the temperatures continue to drop, I’m looking forward to everything that makes this season special in Boulder, from playing outside in the leaves and snow to exploring new places and warming up at a favorite restaurant. Whether you’re shopping for winter essentials, preparing for a season on the slopes or simply looking for a cozy place to escape the cold, downtown Boulder has something for everyone.
