A Lot to Look Forward To: What’s Happening Downtown

Category: Boulder Blog

Hello downtown Boulder!

There is so much happening in the near future to check out downtown, and whether you’re someone who loves to plan things out or prefers to wander and see where the day takes you, there are plenty of reasons to spend some time here in the coming weeks. From can’t-miss events to sweet treats and a wave of new spots to explore, here's what to keep on your radar.

Mark your calendar for one of the biggest events of the season, the Boulder International Film Festival from April 9-12. Downtown will be buzzing all weekend with screenings, filmmakers, and visitors filling the streets. If you’re planning to go, the box office at the Visitor Information Center will be open all week, making it easy to check the schedule and grab tickets. It’s one of those events that turns a regular day downtown into something a little more exciting.

Claw Den

If you’re looking for an excuse to treat yourself, Free Cone Day is back on April 14th from 10am to 8pm at Ben & Jerry’s. Whether you stop by in the middle of a busy afternoon or swing by after dinner, free ice cream just hits differently, especially as the weather starts to warm up. Plus, it’s all for a good cause; donations are encouraged, with proceeds supporting local community initiatives.

Additionally, as a part of Boulder Arts Week, occurring April 3-12,  the 2026 Student Banner Project is on display through April 21st and it’s something that could be easy to walk right past, but it is so worth slowing down for and taking it in. An awards reception will also be held on Wednesday, April 8 at 4:30 PM on the 1300 block of the Pearl Street Mall. Featuring artwork from local students, the banners bring so much lovely color and creativity to the Pearl Street Mall. It’s a simple way to experience something meaningful while you're already downtown. All you have to do is look up!

If it’s been a minute since you’ve explored downtown, there’s a good chance you’ll notice some cool new changes. A fresh bunch of shops have recently opened, and each one brings its own personality to the area.

Evilo

You might find yourself stepping into Claw Den on Broadway, where the playful, arcade-style set up makes it hard not to stay a little longer than planned. Just down the way, Oakberry Açai is bringing a taste of Brazil to Boulder with vibrant açai bowls and smoothies that feel like a refreshing, perfect pick-me-up after a walk down Pearl Street.

For something a little more niche (in the best way), evilO is a spot you may not expect, but will end up loving. With over 80 flavors of olive oil and a whole range of unique gifts, it turns something simple into a full experience.

If you’re in the mood for some browsing, there’s no shortage of places to wander. Sugar and Spice Books Colorado feels like a cozy little escape, dedicated entirely to romance reads, while 2nd Street USA offers a more curated resale shopping experience if you’re looking to refresh your wardrobe without going fully retail. Nearby, Falcha brings in beautiful Nepalese goods that feel both thoughtful, and one-of-a-kind.

Sweet Bird

If you’re a design lover, you’ll want to pop into Visual Comfort & Co., where lighting becomes more of an art form than just a functional piece, and if you’re someone who appreciates handmade details, Sweet Bird and Friends Studio is a must. The space blends jewelry, art, and even pet-inspired pieces, and you can actually see the artist's studio right inside, which makes the experience feel even more personal.

Lastly, if you want something quick and satisfying, Zodiac Subs has you covered with a second Boulder location, making it even easier to grab a solid sandwich and keep your day moving.

Whether you want to plan your week around a big event like the film festival, stop in for a free scoop at Ben & Jerry’s, or just discover a new favorite spot along the way, there’s no shortage of ways to enjoy downtown right now. It’s a time where everything feels especially lively, so take advantage of it and explore a little.

See you around downtown,

Ava
