The End Of An Era

Category: Boulder Blog

Good Day Downtown!

If this blog had a soundtrack, here is where the emotional music would begin to queue as the credits begin to roll. For my last and final blog I’m thinking the background music is “Go Your Own Way” by Fleetwood Mac, “Closing Time” by Semisonic, or “Where’d All The Time Go” by Dr. Dog.

As the year winds down, so does my time here as the Downtown Boulder Intern, which is crazy because not too long ago I was writing my introduction post. Being a part of the DBP team has meant a lot to me for many reasons. As a first generation student, being offered this internship was a dream. After years of school, talks of jobs and internships, it seemed like the day would never come. Well it did and I won’t lie that being shown to my desk on the first day made me emotional (so did having an official email signature). One year ago I’d have never thought I'd be interning for an amazing nonprofit that makes downtown Boulder and its businesses thrive.

Living in Boulder is already amazing, but this internship opened my eyes to just how much work goes into making downtown what it is.  I loved capturing downtown in every kind of weather, and most of all, being part of a team that works tirelessly behind the scenes. From day one, I was welcomed, encouraged to be creative, and trusted with the downtown Boulder blog (big pants to fill). I’ve learned so much…especially the importance of re-reading my blogs for typos (don’t worry I am not joining a spelling bee anytime soon).

I really cannot say enough about the DBP team. They are a group of incredible people who show up for downtown Boulder every single day.  I’m so grateful I got to join the marketing and communications team this Fall and contribute to the work I’ve admired for so long.

One of the sweetest parts of this internship has been meeting the people who make downtown feel so lively. Business owners, staff, shoppers, the people you bump into randomly, who somehow make your whole day.  Everyone I have met carries this genuine warmth. Their love for downtown Boulder is infectious.  I walk around in awe of all the small businesses that make it work everyday, in awe of the community that has been built and the history of the streets we walk daily.

I will miss my lunches at Cheba Hut "Toasted" Subs, my half priced lattes at the Capital One Café, trying new tapas at Gemini, seeing if I can spot a new mural, and rooftop views at Avanti Boulder during my lunch hour. It’s been a great year and it’s all thanks to the DBP team.

Don’t get too emotional because I have one more semester at CU untilI fly from the nest. So you might (definitely) catch me around, either stuffing my face at Freddie's Hot Dog Stand or doing all of my Christmas shopping at Island Farm. You can count on spotting me at the Lights of December Parade coming up on December 13th at 6pm. Don’t be afraid to say hi (my ego can take it and probably needs it).

This isn’t goodbye but see you later!

Until Next Time,

Fatima
