Summer Saturday with The Heap Twins

Maryn & Colter Heap are some of the coolest kids in town! They are the children of Boulder restaurentur & chef, Bradford Heap, and grew up around their father's downtown restaurant, SALT the Bistro. The twins started their Kids' Kritics blog as an exercise in real-life writing on a topic that they know best, Boulder food!  Be sure to follow their blog to keep up with the adventures of the daring dining duo.

Maryn's Perfect Summer Saturday

My perfect summer Saturday would be to start my morning at Ozo Coffee Co. with a creamy hot chocolate. Then I would walk down to Color Me Mine for some fun pottery painting. When I have finished my masterpiece, I would rent a Boulder B-Cycle bike right outside of Color Me Mine.

After renting my bike, I would bike down to Rocket Fizz and get some cool gadgets and tasty sweets there. After all that fun, I will probably be getting hungry! NickN-Willy's Pizza is the perfect place to stop and get a slice of pizza for lunch. I definitely would recommend sitting at the outside table to look at the amazing view. After lunch I would need some dessert of course! Piece, Love and Chocolate is one of my favorite places. One little truffle is all I need to complete my meal.

Some quiet time at the Boulder Bookstore would be a great after-lunch activity. To finish off that action-packed day I would ride my bike on the Boulder Creek path.

Colter's Perfect Summer Saturday

For a great start to the day I will go to Foolish Craig’s for a wonderful breakfast. I think the best thing to eat there is the Butter Rum Caramel Crepe Cake. This was also a favorite of Guy Fieri from Food Network’s Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives. Next, I will head to Mt. Sanitas. This is one of the most beautiful hikes in the Boulder area. Keep an eye out for coyotes, mountain lions and bears! The view at the top is absolutely gorgeous! After that I will head down to Falafel King for a quick lunch. This is a great Mediterranean restaurant that serves delicious Gyros.

Now I think it is time to hit Boulder Creek to do some awesome tubing! You can find inner tubes at many of our local gas stations or Rocky Mountain Anglers.

And finally, a great and healthy kid-friendly place to eat a delicious dinner is SALT Bistro. There are many options for kids and adults alike. One of my favorite things to do after dinner is to stroll down Pearl Street and watch some of the many talented street performers. These performers thrill the pedestrians by balancing chairs on their noses, juggling flaming swords or guessing where you live by your zip code.
