Downtown Boulder's Herstory: Celebrating Women's History Month

Category: Boulder Blog

Hey, downtown!

Happy Women's History Month! What a wonderful opportunity to reflect on the inspiring women who shape our lives and the world around us. In downtown Boulder, we're fortunate to have a thriving community of women-owned / women-led businesses that contribute so much to our local culture. I’m dedicating this week’s blog to highlighting and empowering these amazing women through support and recognition.

Lindsay of Lindsay's Deli and Marcy of Organic Sandwich Company

Start the month strong with a delicious sandwich showdown. On Wednesday, March 5th, two fantastic women-owned businesses, Lindsay’s Boulder Deli and Organic Sandwich Company, are launching a fun sandwich competition. Lindsay's will donate 25% of sales from their Gemini-designed special to The Museum of Boulder, while Organic Sandwich Company will donate 25% of sales from their River and Woods-inspired creation to the Boulder International Film Festival (BIFF). By enjoying these incredible sandwiches, you're supporting amazing women who are making a positive impact on our local business community. It's a win-win!

International Women’s Day is this Saturday, March 8th and The New Local is hosting a free celebration! From 10 am to 3 pm, head down to get creative with a day full of artistic demonstrations and workshops led by local women artists. Click here to learn more and show your support!

Sometimes, all we need is a moment of peace. For me, that moment comes with yoga, especially at Yoga Pearl. This woman-owned gem on the West End is constantly surprising me with their innovative classes like the live music flow nights. After a Yoga Pearl class, head over to Symmetry360 Massage to continue the relaxation. Support local women-owned businesses while rediscovering your inner strength. You'll leave feeling refreshed and grounded, setting the perfect tone for this empowering month.

Looking for a guilt-free shopping trip? Apocalypse, a woman-owned, second-hand shop on the East End, is your answer. Discover stylish vintage finds and refresh your style sustainably with their trade-in system – swap your old clothes for store credit! Plus, this month: 25-50% off select items AND free vintage hidden in the racks. Support local, shop sustainably and find something unique for your closet.

Velvet Elk Lounge is committed to amplifying the voices of powerful female musicians, showcasing their talent and artistry on their stage. This month (and next), they're hosting two exceptional performances that deserve your attention. Join them for Six Foot Blonde on March 13th and Pixie & The Partygrass Boys on April 4th. By attending these shows, you're not only supporting live local music, but you're also directly celebrating these talented women.

Linda Kozloff-Turner, the force behind Christine Marguerite Designs, has not only established herself as a skilled jewelry designer but also as an author dedicated to highlighting the achievements of women in her field. Her book, “Women of Jewelry” profiles 100 women who have faced the challenges of the industry, and you can buy it online or locally at the Boulder Bookstore. Both her store and her book celebrate female talent making them well worth exploring.

There are more lovely women-owned and led businesses that are a part of downtown Boulder that are definitely worth checking out. If you want to find more places to contribute to celebrating women, you can browse our Women-Owned/Led Businesses Page. This month, let's take the time to recognize and celebrate their contributions to this vibrant downtown community!

See you next week!
