Hey there Boulder!
Can you believe it is already June? With a new month comes new events and happenings around downtown. June is also Pride Month, and there are endless opportunities for Boulder’s LGBTQ+ individuals, family members, friends and allies to celebrate Pride and uplift their community this month.
Out Boulder County (OBC) is a local organization working to provide services and programs to the LGBTQ+ community in Boulder. OBC advocates for, “a world where LGBTQ+ people and communities thrive in an inclusive, equitable, just and connected world.” Opening their Community Center in 2004, OBC offers various programs, events, trainings and volunteer opportunities to promote their mission and support the people of Boulder.
OBC is sponsoring many events and opportunities over the next few days to celebrate Pride Week in Boulder County! While not all of these events are happening downtown specifically, they are all within a few minutes/miles and worth the trip! Drinks, food, music and activities for all are readily available at the QTPOC (Queer and Trans People of Color) Pride event tonight! On Wednesday (tomorrow), check out the 50+ LGBTQ+ Mixer or join in on a video game tournament (Queer Contenders) as a participant or spectator. The events keep coming as Thursday brings Pride on the Plaza (in Lafayette), complete with musicians, comedy, hamster wheels, slushies and more! Or, test your LGBTQ+ history and pop culture knowledge at Trivia With a Twist on Thursday night. Start your Friday evening off at the virtual Name and Gender Change Workshop and end it with a wild time at the Boulder County Pride Party at DV8 Distillery! As the weekend rolls in, the celebration continues with the Longmont Pride Visibility March and Festival on Saturday and the Boulder Pride Visibility March and Festival on Sunday right here in downtown at the Bandshell on Canyon. The full list of events and details for Pride Week can be found here!
Bands on the Bricks is any music lover’s place to be and is kicking off this concert season with Pride Night on June 15th. The evening will begin with Julia Kirkwood, a young singer-songwriter who integrates pop with folk, electronica and rock. The evening continues as the soulful Bands on the Bricks veteran Hazel Miller & The Collective performs. This evening will be full of music, food, drinks, dancing and even a performance from CHEER Colorado, an adult cheerleading troupe supporting and empowering the LGBTQ+ community. What a way to kick off Bands on the Bricks this summer! You won’t want to miss it.
Several other businesses and organizations around downtown are offering events and opportunities to celebrate Pride. Fiori Flowers has created a unique Pride bouquet - The Marsha Arrangement - that is available all month with proceeds donated to OBC! Looking to celebrate Pride while being active? Yoga Pearl brings the community a Pride Slow-Flow Yoga Class on June 25th. The Museum of Boulder is also celebrating Boulder LGBTQ+ history every week this month. However you celebrate Pride, there is an event or program for you! Check out your favorite Downtown Boulder businesses, organizations, and restaurants to see what offerings, events and activities they have going on during Pride Month!
Summer is definitely upon us as we enter the month of June. In addition to Pride events, there is so much going on downtown this month - check out our Things To Do Downtown Blog for more ideas! I look forward to continuing to share it all with you!
See you around,
Alexandra
