Growing Up Boulder (GUB), Boulder's Child- and Youth-Friendly City Initiative, invites all-ages to honor our community’s losses and recovery from the Table Mesa (King Soopers) tragedy last March 2021.

GUB received a grant from the Community Foundation Boulder County's Boco Crisis Fund to listen to children and youth about how they wished to heal from this mass shooting incident and then help them co-create healing opportunities for themselves and other young people. In the first part of this year-long project, we organized a Youth Leadership Healing Committee. Twenty-six, very diverse (in terms of age, gender, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation and lived experience) youth applied to be on the committee, and 16-18 young people have routinely participated in healing sessions and event planning. This event is the culmination of their efforts.

GUB worked in close collaboration with Mayamotion Healing and CU's Renée Crown Wellness Institute to design the healing and planning sessions for youth. We had the support of the leadership at BVSD and Boulder Strong Resource Center/Mental Health Partners as well. At the event itself, our team will continue to collect information from children and teens about how they wish to heal, and this information will then help us design the second part of the project.

If you are in town on Saturday, April 2 from 10-12, please stop by the Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art (BMOCA) for this beautiful event.
