Marking the beginning of Cantabile's 35th season, this program celebrates the joy we have experienced throughout our years of singing together. We will perform some of Cantabile's favorite pieces and express our hope for the future through some newer works. Among the highlights:
* "Joy Never Leaves" by Christopher Harris: Bursting with flowing tears and shouts of joy, this composition is a full-throated celebration of the human spirit. Experience the joy.
* "The Road Home" by Stephen Paulus: Crafted from a folk tune called "The Lone Wild Bird," this a cappella choral piece beautifully expresses the universal theme of coming home after being lost or wandering.
* "Alleluia" by Randall Thompson: Composed during World War II in Europe, this unaccompanied SATB chorus piece is quiet and introspective. The repeated "Alleluia" evokes a somber and emotional reflection, making it a powerful and frequently performed work.
* "All of Us" from "Considering Matthew Shepard" by Craig Hella Johnson: This final movement of a tribute to Matthew Shepard, the young gay man left to die in a Wyoming field, this piece combines elements of hymnody, American folk, and gospel music. It lifts and inspires with its powerful message of hope and redemption.
"I Started Out Singing" by Jocelyn Hagen: With vibrant choral melodies and piano accompaniment, this piece celebrates a life in song and expresses the joy and passion of choral music.
Join us for a performance of pure joy as we embark on this new season!
