A couple of years ago these wines were under the radar; now they are the hippest of the hip, the hardest to get, the “cool kids’ wines” that are making Spain cool again. This wild explosion in popularity can be almost entirely attributed to the import portfolio of Jose Pastor. We here at Frasca were the earliest supporters of Jose Pastor in Colorado, and thus we must do an annual Monday night dinner.

The great Chris Barnes will be working the room and pouring three wines from three unique terroirs of Spain. We will begin with a deliciously mineral, salty, Albarino from Lagar de Pintos. Next we will head to the Canary Islands with a deliciously crunchy red, a Listan Negro from own-rooted vines made by young producer Carmelo Pena Santana. Finally we finish with a hearty and mineral Tempranillo (a.k.a Tinto Fino) from Ribero del Duero produced by Goyo Garcia. This is definitely the “New Spain”.
