This Is My Happy Place
What's your happy place? It could be backbending on a yoga mat, centering your mind and body through breath. It might be cheersing a craft brew on a rooftop patio with friends. Perhaps you're enjoying a charcuterie tray and cappuccino alongside a flowing creek. Whatever your happy place is, it's our happy place, too. Because it's here. Through the doors of our local stores and restaurants. On surrounding trails and in our natural beauty. Whether it's a bustling day with friends or a relaxing afternoon to recharge alone, your happy place can be found in downtown Boulder.
We decided to ask some of the people behind our downtown businesses about their happy places...here is what they had to say.
Katie Spieth - Art Mart
My happy place is Boulder Creek. I love to escape the busy city with a bit of fly fishing. It's so close to downtown and I walk over after work most days. Why I love this area is that no matter how many times I go there, the views still amaze me. Everyone has their happy place and I am fortunate to have mine so close!
Elizabeth Yodice - Starfish Jewelry
My happy place is chatting with Mike at Freddy's Hot Dogs on Broadway/Pearl. Mike is so fun to talk with and he knows EVERYBODY who works in the neighborhood. I love stopping by, even when I'm not hungry for a hotdog. He always makes me smile!
Stephanie Schindhelm - Boulder Book Store
Laughing Goat is one of my Happy Places because it's been a tradition for many years amongst a group of people at the Bookstore to go out for breakfast on Friday morning before work. It's usually fairly simple - coffee or tea and a pastry or breakfast burrito - but it's a lovely way to end the week. We don't always go to the same place, but The Laughing Goat is one we frequently go to because there are lots of tables, they have a variety of food choices and they make great coffee.
Kathy King - Barbara & Company
My Happy Place is Two Sole Sisters. On Saturday mornings you can find me checking out all the new arrivals. I am always greeted with smiles and happy voices and shelves of shoes and accessories spread like eye candy around the store. If you love shoes and excellent service this could be your Happy Place too!
Staff - R Gallery
R Gallery + Wine Bar is one of our happy places in Downtown Boulder because we get to work together with our friends, meet friendly customers and artists! We are constantly seeing new artworks and discovering new paintings and prints to take home to our friends, family, significant others and even our pets!
My happy place in Boulder is Trident Booksellers and Café. Not only do they have my favorite tea selection in the city— many are made in-house! — they also have an atmosphere that is absolutely unbeatable. I can roll through for an espresso to-go, stay to study, grab a new book, have a beer with a friend, or even catch a concert. There’s truly nowhere else like it!
Diana - Bliss
I make a lot of books, so my happy place downtown is definitely Two Hands Paperie. They have a great selection of printed and handmade papers and other supplies for bookbinding. I find it really creatively inspiring and love to just take my time looking at everything they have.
Emma May - Bliss
Lula Faye Fibers is my Happy Place because it is just the cutest little shop all around. The owner Natalie is the sweetest and they have the best yarn/macrame supplies in Boulder! Macrame is one of my favorite hobbies and they always have the best color choices and material selection for every project- and who doesn’t love locally sourced yarn!
