Boulder Social Streets: Dancing in the Street

5:30 - 10:00 pm | On 13th Street between Canyon Boulevard and Arapahoe Avenue

Join us for a spectacular night of dancing in the street! Enjoy mesmerizing short performances from local dancers and partake in immersive introductory lessons from Salsa and Swing to Middle Eastern Belly Dance.

Be sure to stay until the end of the evening to show off your newly learned moves during social dance from 8:30 - 10:00 pm with DJ Romeo Wong Henderson, who will be spinning tunes from every musical genre you can think of. All activities, workshops, and performances are FREE!

Canyon Performance Area


5:45 - 6:00 pm

Enjoy a Bharatanatyam performance by Shreya Venkatesh, an Indian classical dancer with over 20 years of experience. Bharatanatyam is a South Indian art form that combines music, dance, and expression.

6:15 - 6:45 pm

Join Jennifer, the owner of the Nawaar Marketplace & Dance Company for an unforgettable workshop entitled: 'Snake Arms to Shimmies; Intro'. In this sampler workshop we’ll show you some of our favorite belly dance steps and movements used in our improvisational format. Come wearing anything that allows for movement and makes you feel like dancing. Fun for all sizes, genders and abilities. See you on the dance floor!

Civic Plaza Dance Area


5:30 - 5:45 pm

Hamsa Arts Dance will be performing Classical Persian dance. Originally a court dance 8,000 years ago, this enchanting dance form has evolved into different styles inspired by Persian poetry, miniature art and sacred geometry. Megan Yalkut, the director, has been performing since 1995 having studied dance extensively in California as well as Nepal and Bali. Hamsa Arts offers lessons in various forms of Middle Eastern Dance including Persian and Belly Dancing, here in downtown Boulder.

6:00 - 6:30 pm

Bring the whole family to 13th Street to participate in a fun, multigenerational dance session led by Vanessa from Kinesis Dance. This multigenerational dance class is a feel good Movement class for all ages and abilities. Class will consist of a circle time, brain dance and body warm up, followed by learning easy to follow dance moves, that emphasize creative movements as well as structured dance steps.

7:00 - 7:30 pm

Come learn the basics of Lindy Hop (Swing dance) in this taster class led by Kat and Amos Rose of Swingin' Denver. Lindy Hop is a joyful, free-spirited, and infectious form of vernacular dance created in the 1920s within the Black community. 7:45 - 8:15 pm

Join Eric, the director of Salsaville Dance Studios, for a short, 30-minute crash course in learning how to do one of the most amazing things in life you may never have done before - salsa dancing!

8:30 - 10:00 pm

Time to party! Whether you participated in the dance lessons leading up to this point or not, come to the Civic Plaza Dance Area to show off your dance moves with DJ Romeo. Listen to music from all over the world while trying out different styles of social dance.

Arapahoe Performance Area


6:30 - 7:30 pm

Listen to the captivating sounds of Gora Gora Orkestar and participate in a Balkan-style dance session with dance leader, Jean Hertzberg. Formed in the fall of 2009, Gora Gora Orkestar is a 10 piece brass band dedicated to making the audience dance with its infectious rhythm and own brand of feel-good music. The sound is an eclectic mix, blending Old World melodies of Eastern European Balkan folk and New Orleans second-line, with the back beat of American funk and the sultry sway of South American tango.

7:45 - 8:30 pm

Join instructor Julio from Mi Chantli to learn breakdancing and hip hop moves through a performance, participatory workshop, and free dance session!
