Downtown Boulder’s Bands on the Bricks offers up a refreshing lineup for the summer on the Pearl Street Mall
[BOULDER, CO] June 3, 2014 – On Wednesday, June 11, 2014, Downtown Boulder, Inc.’s (DBI) Bands on the Bricks kicks off its 17th season with a performance by The Samples. The concert starts at 7 p.m. and is free and open to the public. Prior to the concert, the Downtown Boulder Beer, Wine & Margarita Garden will open for the fourth year welcoming guests 21 years and older starting at 5:30 PM and featuring Rio Margaritas and a new local brewery every three weeks. This summer's brewery line-up includes: Sanitas Brewing Company Avery Brewing Company & West Flanders Brewing Co. Beer and wine can be purchased for $5 per glass. Rio Grande Mexican Restaurant margaritas will be served for $8 per glass.
Fans of every genre of music will be excited with this year’s lineup which showcases a variety of music including: Bluegrass, Soul, Funk, Reggae, Indie Rock, Blues/R&B, Country, and all around great dance music:

Bands on the Bricks inaugural season took place the summer of 1997 as a way of attracting people downtown during the middle of the week. The idea came to fruition thanks to Ben and Jerry’s then owner Sean Maher who witnessed the success of a similar concert series happening in Burlington, Vermont. Not only did Maher provide financial backing through Ben and Jerry’s as the main sponsor for the first few seasons but he also came up with the name – Bands on the Bricks. Flash forward 17 years and Maher is now the Executive Director of Downtown Boulder and is proud that the event continues to gain new fans each year while still attracting ones that have supported it since the beginning.
“Over the years, our events team has done a fantastic job keeping the line-up fresh and entertaining,” said Maher. “It’s great to see the audience filled with our friends who have supported the event from the beginning and now new generations of music lovers who are excited to spend their Wednesday evenings enjoying concerts on the one and only Pearl Street Mall.”
“This season features some fan favorites as well as a few groups who are to new the series,” said Anna Salim, DBI’s Event Director. “We are excited to have The Samples start the season by performing with us for the first time. The following week [June 18], perennial favorite Hazel Miller and her band will entertain the audience. Each week, we have a band that brings a great energy to the event and attendees are really going to enjoy this year’s lineup.”
