Downtown Boulder’s Lights of December Parade Celebrates 25 Years this Saturday


This favorite hometown holiday parade in the heart of the city features the most entries in its quarter of a century history

 

Boulder, Colo. [November 26, 2012]:   With over 60 entries, the 25th annual Lights of December Parade is ready to roll through the streets of downtown Boulder this Saturday (December 1) starting at 6 p.m.  Along with several Cub Scout troops, Brownies & Girl Scouts, the parade will kick off with the Boulder High School Marching Band followed by the parade’s Grand Marshals.  This year, in honor of the Summer Olympics, several past and present Boulder County Olympians, including Timmy Duggan, Shalaya Kipp, David Clarke, Elizabeth Bradley & Colleen DeRueck, will lead the parade.

This beloved community holiday tradition begins at 6 pm at 15th and Walnut streets moving west to 11th Street. The route then heads north on 11th Street to Spruce Street where it goes east ending at 15th and Spruce streets. There are two reviewing stands, one located at 14th and Walnut streets and the other at 11th and Pearl streets.   Attendees will be treated to festive caroling and holiday lights adorning floats from the HOP bus, Boulder Police & Fire Departments to the Boulder Cruiser Club,  Swing Dancing Elves, Fairview High School Marching Knights, as well as other churches, schools, civic organizations & businesses,  and of course,  Santa & Mrs. Claus.

Attendees are encouraged to come early to enjoy holiday shopping & dining at over 300 businesses and to park for free in one of the five City of Boulder parking structures (Parking in these five garages is free every Saturday and Sunday year round. BoulderParking.com). Event organizers encourage everyone to pay special attention to event  ‘No Parking’ signs along and adjacent to the parade route. 

Prior to the Lights of December Parade, Carolers from Colorado Caroling Company, including Boulder’s own Lisa Bell, will also entertain revelers along Pearl Street between 2 – 4 p.m. Santa will be greeting visitors at the Visitor Information Center (1301 Pearl Street) from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. as part of Downtown Boulder’s St. Nick on the Bricks.  From 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. every Saturday through December 22, Santa and Mrs. Claus are ready to chat with guests and pose for free photo ops! 

Downtown Boulder’s Lights of December Parade and St. Nick on the Bricks are free events and open to the public.   These annual events are produced by Downtown Boulder, Incorporated and sponsored by the Daily Camera, City of Boulder Parking Services, CityWide Bank, Tebo Development Company & Broadway Suites.
