The Tulip Fairy and Elf Festival Happens Sunday on the Pearl Street Mall

Category: Press Room

Downtown Boulder’s most beloved springtime event is set to bring fairies and elves of all ages to the Pearl Street Mall on Sunday, April 2nd

[Boulder, CO]  March 30, 2017 –   The tulips are beginning to make their annual appearance along the Pearl Street Mall and on Sunday, April 2nd, they will get a little extra encouragement when pint sized fairies and elves head downtown to help “wake up” the tulips. If the weather cooperates, the Tulip Fairy and Elf Festival (produced by the Downtown Boulder Partnership) kicks off at1 pm until 5 pm on the 1300 block of the mall.  If inclement weather persists, the event will be moved to the following Sunday, April 9th.

Over 20 local community groups and businesses will set up booths offering a variety of kid friendly games and activities from foam sword dueling and art projects to photo ops with the Tulip Fairy herself.
In addition to activities, there will be live stage performances throughout the event.  Boulder’s own Jeff & Paige (City of Boulder Open Space & Mountain Parks) will kick things off with their fun and informative “Waking the Bear” performance.  The live performance schedule is as follows:

1:00 pm   "Waking the Bear"
2:15 pm  “A Tale of Cinderella”
3:15 pm   Ballet Class (Boulder Ballet)
3:30 pm  Tulip Fairy & Elf Parade
4:00 pm  Teresa Storch & the Sharp Eleven

The Tulip Fairy & Elf Festival is a free event and costumes are encouraged. (Super heroes, ghosts and other costumes laying around the house since last October also work just fine!) The public can learn more at TulipFairyFestival.com.  (Every Saturday and Sunday, City of Boulder parking garages are free. BoulderParking.com.)

History of the Pearl Street Mall Tulips:

In the late 70s, Boulder’s then sister city, Meppel, Holland would send 5,000 tulip bulbs annually to be planted along the Pearl Street Mall.  A form of this tradition continues to this day when every fall the City of Boulder’s Parks Department plants 15,000 brand new tulip bulbs that are directly imported from Holland.   With a little TLC over the winter months, the tulips start to peek out of the ground sometime between late March and April.

The Tulip Fairy and Elf Festival is supported by Premier Members Credit Union, Broadway Suites, the Daily Camera, City of Boulder Community Vitality Department, Eldorado Natural Spring Water and produced by the Downtown Boulder Partnership
