Clean Your Dirty Face
Sammy Sowa is one of the few who can say she was in on the ground-floor of Clean Your Dirty Face (CYDF). She was the first esthetician of the first store that opened in Chicago in 2015. So when the storefront in Boulder was undergoing a change of ownership in 2016, it was only natural that Sammy got first dibs on taking it over.
“I was at a point in life where some friends were getting married, other friends were having children and I was seeking a change. I decided to go all-in on the professional route and take a risk by moving to Boulder. I’ve always loved Colorado, and so I followed my intuition and took over the store,” said Sammy.
She never looked back. Over five years later, Sammy has definitely found her community in Colorado. “I have really amazing clients that support me both personally and professionally. One of the best aspects of my job is being able to relate to people that walk in the door. My goal is to make skin care approachable, affordable and efficient. Not everyone has an hour to spare every week for their skin. At Clean Your Dirty Face, customers receive customized care in under 30 minutes.” All CYDF products are vegan and organic - something Sammy understands well, since she helped develop some of the franchise’s initial products. “Skin care can be scary at first. Our facial bar works to simplify the process by using real ingredients in our products.”
Sammy encourages people to stop by and get a facial - even if it’s your first time ever. “We are a great place to start a regular skin care regimen. Especially in Colorado - everyone needs skin care because of the high altitude and dryness! Come into the store, look at membership options and purchase gift cards to help support our success. Remember to buy our products in-store instead of online to support our local shop!”
It’s not only her clients that have made Boulder feel like home. “The downtown community is overwhelmingly supportive. Other small business owners have turned into friends - Rebecca, owner of Rebecca's Herbal Apothecary & Supply, is one of my people. From the pandemic to the tragedy at King Soopers - the community of locals has showcased resilience and vulnerability in recent years. I know the small business community will always be there for me.”
Making the move from Chicago to Boulder was a big one, but Sammy quickly found her place and her people downtown. Be sure to check out their social media channels (@cleanyourdirtyface) and stop by to unlock more radiant skin.
