Hey Downtown!

Clocks have sprung forward, and the first official day of spring is March 20th! Longer days and brighter sunshine hint at the happy season just around the corner. Here is a checklist of four can’t-miss downtown activities this spring!

  1. Boulder County Farmers Market

If you love fresh, locally sourced food, Boulder County Farmers Market (BCFM) is the place for you! You can also load up on baked goods, plants and flowers in addition to Colorado-crafted ready-to-eat foods. Opening April 1st, shop and eat local at BCFM on Saturdays from 8 am-2 pm on 13th Street (between Canyon and Arapahoe). Explore vendors like Black Cat Farm, Centennial Cuts, Whitetail Farm Flowers and many more! Plus, mark your calendars for the Wednesday night markets which return May 3rd from 4 pm-6 pm.

2.  Tulip Fairy and Elf Festival

The Tulip Fairy & Elf Festival signals the start of spring when the Tulip Fairy and her elves parade around the Pearl Street Mall to “wake up the tulips!” This family event is the perfect opportunity to enjoy the 15,000 colorful tulips (imported directly from Holland) that are planted downtown each year to celebrate springtime. On Sunday, April 23rd from 1 pm-5 pm, grab the kiddos and enjoy a playful day downtown featuring live music, children’s performances and arts and crafts. While downtown, grab lunch from a local business like Chiri’s Momo Delight, which can be found on the 1300 block in front of the Visitor Information Center.

3.  Boulder Arts Week

Offering a range of art spectacles from murals and art installations to dancing and music, Boulder Arts Week brings creativity to the heart of Boulder from April 7th - April 15th. On April 8th from 11 am-5 pm, check out a DJ alley event hosted by Downtown Boulder and Pedestrian Shops to kick off the Street Wise Arts mural walking tour. This event happens in the alleyway next to Pedestrian Shops on the 1400 block, next to the freshly painted “Gaia Boulder Sun, Wind and Moving Water” mural. Dance to fun music provided by two local DJ’s, then take the Street Wise tour to enjoy insights from artists. Raise a glass with one free pint at Mountain Sun Pub & Brewery after the tour ends!

4.  Spring Cleaning and a New Springtime Wardrobe

It’s time to start spring cleaning and begin donating dust-collecting clothes (check out Apocalypse and Heady Bauer for reselling options)! Then start developing your new springtime wardrobe with some fresh finds by checking out the wide variety of shopping that downtown Boulder has to offer. Looking to add some new staple pieces to your summer closet? Barbara & Company offers hand-selected collections of designs from across the world to help put together the perfect outfit. For some modern and sustainable outfits perfect for spring photos, Jones + Co. Modern Mercantile has a collection of beautiful dresses and jumpsuits. Complete your shopping day by browsing many of the other locally-owned businesses downtown to help freshen up your closet.

Soak up longer, warmer days this spring season with friends and family in downtown Boulder. Hope to see you around!

Catch you later!

Emma
