National Random Acts of Kindness Day in Downtown Boulder

Hi Downtown Boulder Readers!

Now more than ever, random acts of kindness are standing out and making a mark. Today is 2021’s National Random Acts of Kindness day, so let’s take this opportunity to bring joy into a world that has gone through a lot recently. These acts will not only lift the mood of the receiver, but will help you--the giver--to feel positively as well. Acts of kindness don’t always have to be big and grand. They can be as simple as holding a door open for someone walking behind you, complimenting a stranger, or supporting small businesses during trying times.

Downtown Boulder is the perfect place to help you engage in random acts of kindness. You can start a pay it forward chain at a coffee shop like Laughing Goat Coffeehouse or Amante Coffee. Tip your server or barista a little extra to show your appreciation for them. Even eating local is an act of kindness that directly impacts local businesses. So if you have had a long day and feel like grabbing takeout from a downtown Boulder restaurant, you can do so knowing that it is an act of kindness!

If you have someone you specifically want to do something kind for, stop by Terracotta and get them flowers or a plant that will brighten up a space. Make sure you’re being kind to yourself, too. Stop by the Boulder Book Store and gift yourself an inspirational book that will set the tone for the rest of your year.

Random acts of kindness don’t always have to be physical, either. Send a note of kindness or appreciation to your favorite businesses, or positively engage with them on their social media. We can all get down sometimes, including business owners. So take advantage of today to show your appreciation for all they do for the community.

Lastly, we mustn't forget to show acts of kindness to our environment, which does so much for us. Buy raw, local honey from Savannah Bee Company to help keep the bees alive and thriving. Or shop the Boulder Farmers Market as an act of kindness to local farmers, the environment, and yourself! Eating fresh fruit and veggies is always a way to be kind to your own body, and they taste great.

Let this day put us into a routine of practicing random acts of kindness each and every day! There are no big or small acts of kindness--just simply acts of kindness. So this year, make an effort to be kind to those around you and you may get the same in return.

Talk Soon,

Ally
