Hey Downtown!
Wow, I can’t believe it is August already! This week marks the last few days of my summer internship with Downtown Boulder Partnership (DBP). What a summer it has been! I’ve loved working downtown and getting to share my experiences with you all.
One of my main tasks here as the marketing and communications intern with DBP was writing these blog posts each week! Getting to increase my knowledge of downtown, meet business owners, explore Boulder and be creative while writing these blogs was incredible! One of my favorite posts was on downtown coffee shops, as I got to spend a day exploring so many awesome cafes I hadn’t been in before. I now can proudly say I have experienced every single coffee shop downtown! Another post I enjoyed writing was on art around downtown. The opportunity to walk through downtown art galleries, meet the incredibly kind owners and soak in the sights of gorgeous and creative art pieces was an unforgettable experience.
This summer has also been spent learning more about the incredible town of Boulder that I am honored to call home. There is always something to do in this city, and I have jumped at the opportunity to have all of that event knowledge at my fingertips this summer. Whether I was attending Bands on the Bricks or taking a stroll through the Boulder County Farmers Market, my involvement in events and happenings around downtown truly enhanced my summer. Aside from these experiences, I discovered so many businesses that I can’t believe I never knew I live so close to! I can safely say I have a new obsession with sandwiches from Organic Sandwich Company and will never pass up an opportunity to parooze plants at Terracotta or unique clothing and products at Jones and CO.
Another highlight of working with DBP has been getting to see how business improvement districts are run. Fun fact: over 85% of businesses in downtown Boulder are locally owned or operated! The downtown of every city is unique, so getting to know all of Boulder’s incredible quirks and ways that DBP is able to promote and encourage this community has been fascinating!
While I won’t be writing these blog posts or interning for DBP anymore, I’ll still be in Boulder to finish out my last year at the University of Colorado (I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again… ‘sko Buffs!). I’m so thankful that I’ll have even more time to explore and experience all Boulder has to offer, specifically downtown! I will certainly be spending more time on the bricks this next school year - from wine nights with friends at the R Gallery and Wine Bar to dinner dates at SALT. And it’s no surprise that you’ll be able to find me studying at Trident Booksellers and Café or Boxcar Coffee Roasters on any given day.
This summer has been an incredible experience with Downtown Boulder Partnership. I have learned so much about this town and the wonderful people that make it what it is. The hands-on experience and increased knowledge on public relations, communication and marketing that I have gained throughout this internship has been ever so insightful! I know that all the information I’ve gained from DBP will be extremely helpful as I go into my final year at CU as well as beyond graduation.
See you around!
Alexandra
