For Immediate Release
BOULDER, CO [March 11, 2019] -- After 10 years at the helm of the Downtown Boulder Partnership, Sean Maher will leave his position as CEO in late April to become CEO of RRC Associates, a national market research and consulting firm based in Boulder.
Maher joined Downtown Boulder in 2009 and led the organization through many changes in the district including the construction of over 300,000 SF of new commercial space and more than 50 residential units. “Downtown Boulder has grown up in the last decade but we have still managed to keep our local flavor,” said Maher. “Our team has worked hard to support our small businesses and 77 percent of our retailers and restaurants are still locally owned.”
During his tenure, Maher spearheaded the creation of the Downtown Boulder Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit which recently installed a free WiFi network along Pearl Street thanks to a partnership with Google and has launched several major events including Taste of Pearl and the Boulder Craft Beer Festival. Overall, the organization produces more than 30 community events and serves over 1,200 downtown businesses with marketing and operations services via the Downtown Business Improvement District (BID). In addition, through the Downtown Boulder Partnership (DBP), the organization works with over 400 members through advocacy and additional support programs/workshops in addition to the Downtown Boulder Gift Card which has generated over $2.7 million for participating businesses over the past 10 years.
“Under Sean’s leadership and direction, Downtown Boulder remains one of the strongest and most vibrant downtown districts in the country,” said Downtown Boulder Partnership’s Chairman, Alan Rogers. “His knowledge from a small business owner’s perspective and steadfast dedication, along with the partnerships he’s made in the community, has ensured that downtown will continue to thrive in the years to come. We are sad to see him go but know that he will be an amazing asset to the team at RRC.”
“This has been the best job I’ve ever had,” said Maher. “The downtown community is filled with amazing people and I’ve loved every minute of my time here.” He added, “This is a very special place. To be part of it for so long and come to work on Pearl Street every day has been a privilege. I’ve been very lucky.”
The DBP Board of Directors will appoint an interim CEO to serve beginning in April through the summer and is currently forming a search committee to find a permanent replacement for Maher. The interim CEO is expected to be publicly announced later this week.
