Boulder’s premier juried arts festival celebrates its 38th year
Boulder, Colorado [July 8, 2016] – The iconic Pearl Street Mall will transform into a sprawling outdoor gallery where some of the most inspired fine artists from near and far will be setting up shop for Downtown Boulder’s annual Pearl Street Arts Fest happening July 16 & 17, 2016.
Nearly 100 artists were invited by jury process to take part in this year’s event. Festival goers will peruse art in a variety of mediums including sculpture, photography, jewelry, furniture and painting. “We are very fortunate to have so many talented artists who are interested in being part of this event,” said Anna Salim, Downtown Boulder’s VP of Events. “The caliber of artists seems to grow more and more impressive year over year. Our jury made sure to invite the best of the best to be part of this year’s fest.”
The 2016 Pearl Street Arts Fest commemorative poster feature Amana, Iowa’s Lisa Lammey (photographer). The piece titled, ‘VW in the Clouds’ is the sixth in a series of commemorative posters created for the event. Art Source International (1237 Pearl Street) once again produced the commemorative giclee (digital prints), numbered and signed by the artist and available while supplies last. The giclee will also be available for sale at Lammey’s booth #2,5 as well as at the Visitor Information Center at 1301 Pearl Street. “One look at Lisa’s submission and we knew that this was our commemorative poster. There is something about VW Buses and Boulder that go hand in hand,” said Salim.
Open Studios Mobile Art Lab tent will be set up on the Boulder County Courthouse lawn. The tent will host a plethora of artistic adventures for children (and adults) to explore. The Mobile Art Lab is a student-centered, discovery learning approach that nurtures self-expression, creative thinking and develops a lifelong love of art. Additionally, Open Studios will take over the south end of 14th Street and fill it with 3D art from Open Studios artists along with an educational display of techniques, process, materials and tools used to create their art. New this year, thrill seekers of all ages are invited to test their skills on a free climbing wall located on 14th Street just north of the Pearl Street Mall.
The Pearl Street Arts Fest happens Saturday, July 16 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday, July 17 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the Pearl Street Mall (on the 1100 – 1400 blocks and on 14th Street from Spruce to the alley just south of Pearl Street).
Every Saturday and Sunday (year round) city of Boulder parking garages are free. For a list of the garage locations, visit www.BoulderParking.com. Pearl Street Arts Fest is sponsored by the City of Boulder Community Vitality Department, Daily Camera, 5280 Magazine & 9News. The event is supported by Eco-Products, Bridge House (Ready To Work), Dry Soda, Three Leaf Concepts and Eldorado Natural Springs Water.
